University of Nigeria Nsukka ( UNN) was established in in 1955 by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. The University is located in Nsukka, Enugu state of Nigeria. It has 15 faculties and 102 academic departments. The university is the first autonomous University in Nigeria.
The vice chancellor of the University as at 2019 is Dr. Charles Igwe Arizechukwu.
The university has its motto which is ” to restore the dignity of man” and it nickname as ” lion and lioness,”
On July 2019, ” Webometrics” published a report on its site ” webometrics.info with the title ” Transparent ranking: Top universities by citations in top Google scholar profiles “ This report was based on number of citations from research publications.
According to the report, The university of Nigeria, Nsukka was listed as the First (1st) in Nigeria, Seventeenth (17th) in Africa, and 1108 in the world with 108,209 citations.

University of Illorin; Ranked 3rd in Nigeria with 74,245 citations
Covenant University; Ranked 4th in Nigeria with 55,844 citations

Based on the report from webometrics, Harvard University ranked First in the world with 8,704,969 citations while University of Cape town, took the first position in Africa having 996,898 citations.
This is making the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) more popular, not only this year, but in previous years the University do occupy nice position among other Universities in Nigeria in ranking.
