Do you know why we are advised to soar like an eagle? Yes, we need to soar like an unstoppable eagle with God because eagles are the most powerful among the birds and have several characteristics that we the children of God should emulate, that’s why it is usually used as a point of reference in many chapters of the Bible. Eagles not withstanding have very strong wings which can fly long distances without flapping. Exodus 19:4 “You yourself have seen what I did to Egypt, how I carried them in an eagle wings and brought them to myself.” Eagles are also very fast birds known for covering long distances. 2 Samuel 1:3 ” They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.” Eagles can cover long distances without getting tired, when they get tired, they perch somewhere to renew their strength. As children of God, we don’t need to faint nor fear because our redeemer liveth. He has promised to always be with us in every situation only if we trust and obey.Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Here are some characteristics of an eagle we should emulate:
1. Eagles are strong and also have great strength.
Eagles are the most powerful of all the birds. They are known as a very strong bird with unbeatable strength. Eagles can fly miles away without getting when, when they get tired, they perch somewhere and also renew their strength. God wants us to be strong and also to have great strength so as to be able to withstand difficulties and challenges just like the eagle 1 Samuel 4:9 ” Be men, or you will be subject to theHebrews, as they have been to you. Be men, and fight.” However, God has also promise to help us renew our strength when we are very weak and tired, only if we believe in him. Isaiah 40:3 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like Eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they walk and not faint.”
2. Eagles are fearless
Eagles are fearless birds. Eagles are predators and are known to catch preys sometimes bigger than them. They are not afraid to try their luck. What is this teaching us as followers of Christ? This means that we should be bold and courageous, fearlessly face our troubles most especially realizing that God is always with us. Isaiah35:4 ” Say to those with fearful hearts, be strong, do not fear , your God will come, He will come with vengeance, with divine retribution, He will come to save you.” Don’t let the challenges of this life sweep you off your feet, always be strong and have faith, surely you will defeat.
3. Eagles are Patience
Eagles never loose hope, if they target a prey and did not succeed, they do not go away entirely but keeps on hanging around until they succeed. Sometimes, it may take them days or weeks to succeed. Then, ask yourself, Why am I loosing hope? Learn to be patient most especially when you are asking something from God. Psalm 133:20 “We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our hope and shield.” God works in his own time, and at his appointed time, he will surely grant you your requests, then , you will know that he is the God that never fails nor disappoints his chosen people. Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.”
4. Eagles are Wise
These group of birds are very intelligent. They take time to study their environment and also their prey. They know the right time to land and also the right time to take off in order to escape being caught by their enemies and also succeeding with catching their prey. As children of God, we should be wise and know how to soar like the eagle so as to detect when our enemies are around so that we can take the necessary measure to protect ourselves. Always be vigilante, prayerful and alert because you don’t know when the enemies will strike. God also wants us to be wise because wisdom is the greatest asset that you can have because it helps you to know how to tackle the challenges of life. Proverbs 16:16 ” How much better to get wisdom than gold; to choose understanding than silver?”. A wise man is unbeatable.
5. Eagles thrive where others fail
Eagles lives and survives in environment and conditions where other birds cannot reach nor survive. Eagles build their nests on high trees and also on mountain tops, they know how to keep themselves protected from their enemies. Despite the high wind current, they know how to adjust their wings and stay protected. As children of God, we need God in order to survive in harsh environments. If we have God on our side, where other go and fail, when we go there, we will definitely succeed. We can only attract God on our side by keeping his laws and commandments. Proverbs 18:10 “The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe.”
6. Eagles have powerful eyes
Eagles posses powerful eyes which enables them to see things several miles away from them. Thus, allowing them to detect when their preys and enemies are around. We should posses both spiritual and physical eyes in order to know when the enemies are around. Mathew 6:22 “The eye is the lamp of the body: if your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.
7. Eagles gives proper training to their young ones
Eagles teach their young ones eaglets, those striking characteristics that they posses. They teach them how to soar without flapping their wings in order to conserve their energy, how to target and easily catch their preys, how to stay alert in order to detect when their enemies are around. As children of God, it is our duty to train our children in the right way and also the way of the Lord because they were entrusted to us by God to take care of. When you train your children in the right way, they will not deviate from it even till their old age. Proverbs 22:6 ” Train up a child the way he should go: when he is old, he will never depart from it.”
As true followers and believers of our Lord, we should posses good characters so as to obtain the blessings of the Lord and also make it to heaven at last. We should soar like an unstoppable eagle and never loose hope. God has promised to always be by our side if only we can be able to keep his laws and commandments, he will surely help us to overcome all obstacles on our way.
