Omnipotence is one of the attributes of God which shows his powerful nature. Omnipotence is a theological term that refers to the all-encompassing power of God. It describes God as having virtually unlimited authority or influence. God is all-powerful and the ruler of nature. In short, He is universally omnipotence. He is the all powerful God who has created all things and sustains them by the power of his word. The Bible reveals God as being omnipotent from Genesis to Revelation.
Bible Verses that shows that God’s Omnipotence
Power over Light and Darkness
Genesis 1:1-3 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ” Let there be light ” and there was light.”
God is the all powerful God who has created everything by the power of his word. He also demonstrated his power over light and darkness by creating and separating light from darkness. Thus, God is the creator, the maker and the finisher of all things.
Power to rule and to judge
Isaiah 4:10 “See, the sovereign Lord comes with power, and his arms rules for him. See, his rewards is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.”
Romans 14:10 “For we will all stand before God’s judgement seat.”
God’s power was not vested on him by anyone. His power came naturally with him. He is in charge and also in control of everything. He rewards accordingly and also takes care of all like a good Shepherd. He has great authority and influence over everything.
Power over Life
Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God, he created him, male and female he created them.”
God being the most powerful is the creator and originator of man, therefore he has power over life because it is the works of his hand.
Power over death
Genesis 2:17 “But you must not eat from the the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it, you will surely die.” Also Genesis 3:19 ” Until you return from the ground since you were taken from it; for dust you are and to dust you will return. “
God revealed his power over death by instructing Adam and Eve not to eat the forbidden fruit as the consequence of disobeying this instruction is death, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, God changed his initial plan for man which is to live forever and not to die.
Incomparable Power
Isaiah 40:25 “To whom will you compare me with? Or who is my equal? ” Says the Holy one.”
God is the greatest of all the greatest. He is incomparable. He is the most powerful and mightiest one. God is supreme and he is supreme over everything that is existing.
Power over Rain
Genesis 8:1 “But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that was with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.”
God still demonstrated his power over rain by making the rain that covered Noah’s ark to stop falling from the sky, thus the water dried up from the earth which made Noah, his family and all the living creatures with him able to come out from the ark.
Power to Provide
Exodus 16:15 “Moses said to them, ” It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat.”
God still cares and provides for us. He showed us his power of providing for his people by sending manna and Quail to the children of the Israelites when they were in the wilderness and had nothing to eat.
Power to Redeem
Isaiah 43:1 “But now this is what the Lord says – he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you O Israel, ” Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
God is still our saviour and redeemer. He has promised to be with us at all times.
What does this means for us?
It means that there is nothing that God cannot do for us if we trust, obey and believe in him. He is bigger than our problems. All power belongs to him and all living creatures are under him.
