This is an interesting topic which have received a lot of attention most especially from Christians and I have decided to add my own opinion on this.
Dating as we all know it’s a preparatory stage in a relationship. It is a stage where both partners analyses each others character to know if they are compatible or not. Sometimes, dating may or may not lead to marriage.
Now,the question is ” As a Christian, what is required of you in dating? How should your relationship look like? “
Here are some useful tips to guide you if you want to date like a true Christian by following Bible principles;
Don’t follow the crowd: Your relationship should be an exemplary one. Don’t be forced to do something contrary to your belief because others are doing it. Exodus 23:2, says that “Thou shall not follow multitude do do evil, neither shall thou speak in a cause to decline many after judgement”. You should set a standard while dating which everyone one of you should adhere to.
Say no to sexual immorality: I will like to say that this is the area that have received the greatest attention. According to Bible principle, sex before marriage is a sin, so you flee from this and also flee from situations that can expose or lead you to this. 1 Cor.6 :18-20, says ” Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body,but he that commitet fornication sinneth against his own body. What I know is that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you,which you have is God, and ye are not your own?For ye are bought with a price,therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s”. Practice agape love in your relationship.
Share the word of God with each other: Learn to share the word of God with each other while dating. Read the Bible together, you can also invite each other for Christian fellowships. This will draw both of you closer to God and also help you in resisting temptations which may lead to sin,because the word of God gives hope and courage.
No room for violence: When you are dating as a Christian, there should be no room for violence, rather issues should be settled amicably. According to the book of Proverbs 22-24, ” Make no friendship with an angry man, and with a furious man, thou shalt not go, lest, thou learn his way,and get a snare to the soul”. Your relationship should be built on a true love and not fake love.
Give useful advice to each other: When you partner is derailing, you can give him or her useful advice, as this can draw the person back, ignoring the person is not a good sign of Christian dating.
